We can talk plot, we can talk guest stars and we can even talk funny dialogue, but at its heart “Glee” is really about pretty people singing. In light of the recent musical heavy [lastfm]Britney Spears[/lastfm] tribute episode, here are our picks for the top five musical performances from “Glee.”
5) “Hello” (from the episode Hell-O): [lastfm]Jonathan Groff[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Lea Michele[/lastfm], singing together on national television? More of this, please.
4) “Dream On” (Dream On): Our love for Neil Patrick Harris knows no bounds. This might be the most fun of any individual performance throughout season one.
3) “Don’t Stand So Close To Me”/”Young Girls” (Ballad): “Glee” loves a good mashup, and this is the best of the bunch, putting together two songs from different eras in a way that both original artists would respect. Also, [lastfm]Lea Michele[/lastfm] and Jayma Mays are both ADORABLE.
2) “Somebody To Love” (The Rhodes Not Taken): It took until episode five for the entire New Directions gang to get a performance to match the way it ended the pilot (and oh, that’s coming) with such an emotional kick, but this [lastfm]Queen[/lastfm] song did the trick.
1) “Don’t Stop Believin'” (Pilot): Up until the final moments of the pilot episode, “Glee” had been a pretty good idea, something we’d probably check in with in the fall to see if it was worth it. After the nascent New Directions crew belted out the [lastfm]Journey[/lastfm] classic, “Glee” became Must-See-TV.
